Rutgers University in New Jersey has named Julie Hermann as director of intercollegiate athletics. Hermann was executive senior associate athletic director at the University of Louisville. Hermann will be one of only five women athletics directors at the 124 colleges and universities that make up the NCAA’s Football Bowl Subdivision. She is the first woman to serve as athletics director at Rutgers. She was selected from a pool of 63 candidates and will receive a base salary of $450,000 with the opportunity for a performance-based bonus.
The athletics program at Rutgers has been under intense scrutiny after a video showed its men’s basketball coach abusing players. The athletic director resigned days after a video of the abuse was broadcast.
Hermann is a graduate of the University of Nebraska, where she played varsity volleyball. She has been on the staff at the University of Louisville for 16 years. She is the immediate past president of the National Association of Collegiate Women’s Athletics Administrators.
With more than 30 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Richtermeyer has spent the past three years as executive vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost at Rutgers University-Camden
