Two Women Named Carolina Distinguished Professors

The University of South Carolina in Columbia has named six faculty members Carolina Distinguished Professors. The professorships are awarded to full professors who have reputations as distinguished teachers, combining excellence in scholarship with a commitment to students, mentoring their junior colleagues, and service to the university and the profession. Two of the faculty members named Carolina Distinguished Professors are women.
Robyn Hunt is a professor of theatre and dance. She joined the faculty at the University of South Carolina in 2006 after teaching at the School of Drama at the University of Washington for 18 years. Professor Hunt holds a bachelor’s degree in theatre and a master of fine arts degree in acting from the University of California at San Diego.
Mitzi Nagarkatti is a professor in the department of pathology, microbiology and immunology at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Her research is focused on cancer immunology and immunotherapy. Dr. Nagarkatti holds bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees, all from educational institutions in India.
