Carter will be studying the rich collection of artwork, manuscripts, sculpture, and mural paintings produced by monks at St. Albans Abbey. She states, “I will travel to England later this year to conduct primary source research at a number of archives, libraries, museums, and medieval churches, including St. Albans. Many of the artworks and documents that I examine have not yet been discussed by art historians.”
Her dissertation is entitled, “Art, History, and the Creation of Monastic Identity at Late Medieval St. Albans Abbey.” Carter is a graduate of Indiana University and holds a master’s degree from Florida State. She plans on a career in academia after completing her doctorate.
