George Mason University Historian Nominated for the George Washington Book Prize

The prize, awarded since 2005 by Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland, honors books about the nation’s founding era. The prize includes a $50,000 award. The winner will be announced at a dinner gala at Mount Vernon on May 22.

Kierner CindyAmong the four authors honored as finalists is one woman. Cynthia A. Kierner, a professor of history at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, was nominated for her book Martha Jefferson Randolph: Daughter of Monticello (University of North Carolina Press, 2012).

Professor Kierner is the author or editor of six other books including Scandal at Bizarre: Rumor and Reputation in Jefferson’s America (University of Virginia Press, 2006). Dr. Kierner holds a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.
