University of Maine Promotes Four Women to Full Professor

The University of Maine has announced the promotion of seven scholars to the rank of full professor. Four of the promotions went to women.

Janet Fairman was named a full professor of education. She joined the faculty at the university in 2002. In 2015, Dr. Fairman was appointed co-director of the Maine Education Policy Research Institute. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Chicago and holds a master’s degree in political science/public policy and a doctorate in education policy from Rutgers University in New Jersey.

Laura Rickard was promoted to professor of communication and journalism. She joined the University of Maine in 2015 after serving as an assistant professor of environmental studies at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. Dr. Rickard holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in communication from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

Judith Rosenbaum-Andre was appointed professor of communication and journalism. Her research is focused on understanding how people actively use media content in their daily lives and how this usage affects both individuals as well as society at large. She is the author of Constructing Digital Cultures: Tweets, Trends, Race, and Gender (Lexington Books, 2017). Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Maine, Dr. Rosenbaum taught at Albany State University in Georgia. Dr. Rosenbaum received her Ph.D. in mass communication from the Radboud University Nijmegen in The Netherlands.

Sydne Record was promoted to professor of landscape conservation. Dr. Record joined the department of wildlife, fisheries, and conservation biology at the University of Maine in August 2022. Earlier, she was associate provost and associate professor of quantitative ecology at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. Dr. Record holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, and a Ph.D. in plant biology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
