In Memoriam: Margaret Ambrose

Margaret Ann Styles Ambrose, longtime professor and administrator with Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on March 16. She was 81 years old.

Professor Ambrose began her career in public education in Louisiana school districts before transitioning to Southern University, where she taught for over three decades. She started as an assistant professor of English and went on to hold several administrative leadership roles. Throughout her tenure, she had stints as assistant to the vice chancellor for academic affairs, assistant to the chancellor, executive associate to the Southern University System president, and executive vice chancellor. From May 2007 to 2008, she served as the institution’s interim chancellor.

Professor Ambrose was an honors graduate of what is now Grambling State University in Louisiana. She held a master’s degree from Indiana University.
