Anita Jacobson, clinical professor in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Rhode Island., has received the 2025 Generation Rx Award of Excellence from the American Pharmacists Association. She was honored for her commitment to the mission of substance abuse education.
Dr. Jacobson serves in a variety of roles at the University of Rhode Island. As a professor, she teaches several courses for the university’s doctor of pharmacy program, covering topics such as childhood psychiatric disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, cultural sensitivity, and health disparities. She also serves as director of the Community First Responder Program on the Kingston Campus and coordinator of the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process Laboratories. Additionally, she leads a clinical practice site at Eleanor Slater Hospital within the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities, and Hospitals.
As a scholar, Dr. Jacobson centers her work around improving pharmacist-patient communication. She focuses on vulnerable patient populations and conditions such as mental health and substance use disorders. Her expertise in this area led to her appointment as the cultural competence content editor for the American Pharmacists Association’s online publication Pharmacotherapy First.
Dr. Jacobson received her doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Rhode Island.
