Six Women Scholars Receive Faculty Appointments at the New York University Silver School of Social Work

Sarah Godoy has joined the NYU Silver School of Social Work faculty as an assistant professor. She was also appointed to a faculty affiliation with the university’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Her social work research focuses on the commercial sexual exploitation of children and adults, including their intersections with child welfare, legal, and healthcare systems.

Dr. Godoy is a graduate of the University of California, Riverside, where she earned dual-bachelor’s degrees in political science and women’s studies. She holds a master’s degree in social welfare from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Ph.D. in social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Sarah Narendorf has joined the NYU Silver School of Social Work faculty as an associate professor. Prior to her new role, she spent 12 years on the faculty of the Graduate College of Social Work at the University of Houston. Her research focuses on young adults who navigate structural barriers as they transition to adulthood.

Dr. Narendorf earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology and English from Rice University in Houston, a master of social work degree from the University of Houston, and Ph.D. in social work from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Sophia Tsesmelis Piccolino has joined the NYU Silver School of Social Work faculty as a clinical assistant professor and director of the Zelda Foster Studies Program in Palliative and End-of-Life Care. She is a clinical social worker, board-certified in oncology social work, and specializes in working with individuals and families in the areas of cancer, trauma, grief, and loss.

Dr. Tsesmelis Piccolino is a three-time graduate of NYU, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and Hellenic studies, a master of social work degree, and a doctorate of social work.

Marylene Cloitre has joined the NYU Silver School of Social Work faculty as a research professor and senior research scientist. For the past 14 years, she has served as a research health science specialist with the National Center for PTSD Dissemination and Training Division. She also held adjunct professor roles with Stanford University and the NYU School of Medicine. Her research and clinical interests focus on the long-term effects of psychological trauma on social and emotional functioning.

Dr. Cloitre is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, where she majored in philosophy. She holds a master’s degree in philosophy and Ph.D. in psychology from Columbia University.

Ana Flores has joined the NYU Silver School of Social Work faculty as an assistant professor. Her research focuses on advancing culturally responsive services for Hispanic people with serious mental illness and identifying strategies for removing structural barriers to quality care.

Dr. Flores is a graduate of California State University, San Bernardino, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master of social work degree and Ph.D. in social work from the University of Pittsburgh.

Katherine Sullivan has been promoted to associate professor at the NYU Silver School of Social Work. She has been a faculty member with the university since 2018. Her research centers around the impact of trauma and other risk factors on family processes, particularly amongst the families of military service members and veterans.

Dr. Sullivan graduated from Williams College in Massachusetts, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master of social work degree in child and adolescent health and mental health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. in social work from the University of Southern California.
