Alexandrea Newton, professor of pharmacology at the University of California, San Diego, has received the Marie Maynard Daly Award from the Protein Society. The annual award recognizes outstanding research contributions in protein science and human health.
In her role at the University of California, San Diego, Dr. Newton currently holds the title of Distinguished Professor of Pharmacology. She holds appointments in the division of cancer biology and the division of neuropharmacology and neurological disorders. She also serves as director of Cell Signaling San Diego, a university initiative that encourages collaboration between scholars conducting molecular mechanism research to develop disease treatments.
Dr. Newton’s research interests center around the molecular mechanisms of cell signaling and how they are deregulated in disease. Her lab has a particular focus on studying the protein kinase C and the PHLPP phosphatase.
Dr. Newton received her Ph.D. from Stanford University.
