Amelia Parnell Named President of National Association of Student Personnel Administrators

The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators has appointed Amelia Parnell as president of the organization. She will assume her presidency on July 1.

Dr. Parnell has been with the organization since 2015, serving as vice president for research and policy. Prior to her current role, she was director of research initiatives and director of national survey research for the Association of Institutional Research. Earlier in her career, she served as an education policy analyst for the Florida Legislature.

In addition to her role with NASPA, Dr. Parnell is a faculty member with the Institute on ePortfolios at the American Association of Colleges and Universities. Throughout her career she has authored numerous scholarly publications including her book, You Are a Data Person: Strategies for Using Analytics on Campus (Routledge, 2021).

“I am honored to serve in this new role and to support our members in their critical work,” said Dr. Parnell. “NASPA is well-positioned to advocate for student affairs professionals around the world and, by doing so, we can demonstrate our commitment to student success and the association’s vision for fulfilling the promise of higher education.”

Dr. Parnell is a graduate of Florida A&M University where she earned a bachelor’s degree and an MBA. She holds a Ph.D. in higher education from Florida State University.

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
