Kimberly Evans, a professor of nephrology at Duke Medical School, died in Durham, North Carolina, on August 23. She was 50 years old.
A native of Queens, New York, Dr. Evans earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at New York University and her medical degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
Dr. Evans joined the Duke family in 1998 as an internal medicine resident and was named a fellow in nephrology in 2001. She joined the faculty in 2003 and became assistant professor of medicine in 2008. Dr. Evans was promoted to associate professor in 2016 to professor of medicine on August 1, 2023. At Duke, she served as associate vice chair of diversity, equity, and inclusion and was chair of the Minority Recruitment and Retention Committee.
