Sehar Awan Will Be the Next President of Mission College in Santa Clara, California

Seher Awan has been named the next president of Mission College in Santa Clara, California. She will take on her new duties on August 1.

Mission College enrolls just over 6,500 students, according to the most recent statistics furnished by the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 58 percent of the student body.

“I am truly humbled and honored by this opportunity to join the West Valley-Mission Community College District as Mission College’s next president. Mission College is an incredible place providing life-changing opportunities for the students and community. I am excited to join the Mission College family to support their transformational equity work and build on their successes together,” said Dr. Awan.

Dr. Awan previously was the vice president of administrative services at San Diego City College and was the acting vice president at San Jose City College. Previously she was in leadership roles with Valencia College in Florida and the Small Business Development Center at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California. Since 2019, Dr. Awan has been an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.

Dr. Awan holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in business and public administration from California State University, Northridge. She earned a doctorate in organizational leadership from Pepperdine University.

Dr. McEwen comes to her new appointment following four years as president and vice chancellor of Victoria University in the University of Toronto. Earlier, she served in several leadership roles at the University of Toronto Mississauga. She received some of her education in the United States.
