Two Women Scholars Appointed to Provost Positions

Melinda Arnold has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs for Texas A&M University-Texarkana. She was provost at Montana State University-Billings. Earlier in her career, Dr. Arnold served as interim associate provost at the University of North Texas at Dallas and associate dean of the College of Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Dr. Arnold holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Texas. She earned a master’s degree in liberal studies from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and a doctorate in criminal justice from Rutgers University in New Jersey.
Laura Furge was named provost at Muhlenberg College, a liberal arts educational institution in Allentown, Pennsylvania, effective June 1. Dr. Fluge is the Dorothy H. Heyl Professor of Chemistry at Kalamazoo College in Michigan. In addition to teaching, Professor Furge has served as interim provost and associate provost at Kalamazoo College.
Professor Furge earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Oberlin College in Ohio. She completed a Ph.D. and a postdoctoral fellowship in biochemistry at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
