In Memoriam: Thelma Jean Grossholtz, 1929-2021

Jean Grossholtz, a faculty member at Mount Holyoke College during a career that spanned four decades, died on February 9. She was 91 years old.
Dr. Grossholtz was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University. She earned a master’s degree in history at the University of Denver and a Ph.D. in South East Asian politics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Dr. Groosholtz was a founding member of Diverse Women for Diversity, an international group of environmental activists, created on the principles of biodiversity and eco-feminism. She was a political activist and was arrested several times during civil disobedience protests.
Professor Grossholtz joined the faculty at Mount Holyoke College in 1961 and founded the women’s studies program. She taught politics and women’s studies at the college. She retired in 1999.
