The New President of American River College in Sacramento, California

Melanie Dixon is the new president of American River College in Sacramento, California. The college enrolls more than 31,000 students, according to the latest data supplied by the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 47 percent of the student body.
“It is with great humility, gratitude, and excitement that I take on the role of president at American River College,” Dixon said. “ARC is one of the finest community colleges in our country and I look forward to building on that tradition of excellence into the future. ARC’s students are amazing, and I can’t wait to start working with our outstanding team of faculty, staff, and administrators to continue delivering on our promise to them.”
Since 2014, Dixon has served in administrative roles for the Los Rios College District, most recently as associate vice chancellor of educational services and student success. Prior to joining the Los Rios colleges, Dixon was assistant director of diversity and multicultural student services at Portland State University in Oregon.
Dixon holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and a master’s degree in postsecondary education from Portland State University
