Julia Jasken Appointed President of McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland

The board of trustees of McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland, has named Julia Jasken as the college’s tenth president, effective June 1, 2021. Dr. Jasken will be the second woman president in the 153-year history of the college.

McDaniel College enrolls about 1,700 undergraduate students and nearly 1,200 graduate students, according to the most recent data provided by the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 52 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Jasken has been a professor of English at McDaniel College since 2003. For the past eight years, she has assumed increasing responsibility in administrative positions, most recently serving in her current role as the college’s executive vice president and provost.

“I am humbled and honored to be elected by the board of trustees to lead the institution that I love. McDaniel is such a special place,” Dr. Jasken said. “Over my 17 years at the college, I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to build new programs and develop partnerships with members of the Westminster community.”

A native of Moorhead, Minnesota, Dr. Jasken earned her bachelor’s degree from the College of Saint Benedict, where she double majored in English, and communication and media. She then earned a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University and a Ph.D. from Michigan Technological University.
