The Dr. Louise Bauck Endowment for Environmental Studies was recently established at Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia. The scholarship program honors long-time faculty member Louise Astrid Brouwer Bauck, who died in July 2019 following a battle with stomach cancer.
The fund was established by Dr. Bauck’s husband Stewart, and his company Neogen Corporation. The scholarships will support students in the environmental studies program at the university.
Dr. Bauck was a faculty member in biology at Brenau University from 2005 to 2012. She served as chair of the department of math & science from 2008 to 2010. After moving to Nebraska, she continued to support Brenau’s programs by teaching online and accompanying study abroad trips to the Yucatan from 2013 to 2018. She was an expert in avian medicine.
Dr. Bauck earned a bachelor’s degree in marine biology at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. She held a master’s degree and a veterinary doctorate from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatchewan.
