Mount Holyoke College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution for women in South Hadley, Massachusetts, has eight women who are serving as new assistant professors on campus this fall.
Chassidy Bozeman is a Clare Booth Luce Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Statistics. Her research is focused on graph theory and linear algebra. She is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University and holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from Iowa State University. She is the third African American woman to earn a doctorate in mathematics at Iowa State.
Barbie Diewald was hired as an assistant professor of dance. She is the founder of Barbie Diewald Choreography, a research and performance ensemble based in Western Massachusetts and New York. Diewald has been a visiting artist at Mount Holyoke since 2017. She holds a bachelor’s degree in theatre from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, and a master of fine arts degree in dance from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
Andrea Lawlor is a new assistant professor of English and teaches courses in creative writing. She is the author of a novel, Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl (Vintage, 2019). Lawlor is a graduate of the University of Iowa. She holds a master’s degree from Temple University in Philadelaphia and a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from the University of Massachusetts.
Jennifer M. Matos is an assistant professor of psychology and the director of middle and secondary teacher and licensure programs at the college. She has been a visiting lecturer at Mount Holyoke since 2015. Dr. Matos holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in education from Smith College. She earned a doctorate in student development from the University of Massachusetts.
Lidia Mrad was appointed an assistant professor of mathematics. Her research focuses on applying analytical and computational techniques to solve problems in materials science, specifically in the area of liquid crystals. Dr. Mrad is a graduate of Lebanese University and earned a master’s degree at the American University of Beirut. She earned a Ph.D. at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Marie Ozanne is a Claire Booth Luce Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Statistics. She is a biostatistician who focuses broadly on statistical methodology to address public health concerns. Dr. Ozanne is a 2012 graduate of Mount Holyoke College. She went on to earn a master’s degree at Ohio State University and a Ph.D. at the University of Iowa.
Adriana Pitetta is a new assistant professor of Spanish. She teaches courses on the relationship between social movements and history, gender, literature and film. Dr. Pitetta is a graduate of the Universidad de la RepuÌblica in Uruguay. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh.
Marta Sabariego is an assistant professor of neuroscience and behavior. Her research examines the neural circuits of emotion and memory. Dr. Sabariego earned a Ph.D. at the University of JaeÌn in Spain. She did postdoctoral studies at the University of California, San Diego.
A longtime law school faculty member, Magill served as the ninth president of the University of Pennsylvania from the summer of 2022 until her resignation in December 2023. She is slated to become the next dean of the Georgetown University Law Center on August 1.
Debra Mollen of Texas Woman's University has been named president of the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs. Sharon Oliver of North Carolina Central University was elected national chair of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
