In Memoriam: Patricia Mercaitis (1950-2018)

Patricia MercaitisPatricia A Mercaitis, a retired associate professor of speech language pathology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, died on September 7 in Brewster, Massachusetts. She was 68 years old.

A native of Boston, Dr. Mercaitis joined the department of communications disorders at the University of Massachusetts in 1983 after serving as a teaching assistant in communication disorders, psychology, and public health at the university while she was a graduate student. She retired from the university in 2014.

Dr. Mercaitis earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston College and a master’s degree in communications disorders and a Ph.D. in speech language pathology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
