New Duties for Three Women Faculty Members at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst

Michelle Budig has been appointed vice provost for faculty development at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She will hold this position in addition to being a professor of sociology. Dr. Budig received her bachelor’s degree from Augsburg University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she double majored in sociology and English. She earned a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Arizona.

Claire Hamilton has been named associate provost and director of the Institute for Teaching Excellence and Faculty Development. She is an associate professor of teacher education and curriculum studies at the university. Dr. Hamilton holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Laura Valdiviezo has been named director of Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies at the university. She is currently an associate professor in the department of teacher education and curriculum studies. Dr. Valdiviezo holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and teaching, philosophy, and social sciences from Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, a master’s degree in education from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, and a Ph.D. in international education and policy studies from Columbia University.
