Meredith College, a liberals arts educational institution for women in Raleigh, North Carolina, has announced an expanded partnership with Golden Doors Scholars, a nonprofit organization that promotes economic mobility and educational opportunity for undocumented students.
The college entered into a formal partnership with Golden Door Scholars in the fall of 2016. For the current entering class, there are three Golden Door Scholars. Next year, funding will be available to support 10 Golden Door Scholars.
Golden Door Scholars receive support through scholarships, mentorship and professional development, and through funding and collaborations with partner colleges and universities. Meredith College is one of 13 colleges and universities who have partnered with the organization.
Jo Allen, president of Meredith College, stated that “it is fundamental to Meredith’s mission as a women’s college to provide educational access to all women regardless of where they were born. For years, Meredith has admitted highly qualified undocumented women, who have succeeded in and out of the classroom and enriched the Meredith campus.”
Meredith College, founded in 1891, enrolls about 1,700 women undergraduates and 300 graduate students.
