Carol Higy, an associate professor of educational leadership and counseling at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, died late last month at University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. She was 62 years old and had suffered from cancer.
Dr. Higy served on the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke for 18 years. In addition to teaching, she served as associate dean of the School of Education at the university. She began her career in higher education as a basketball coach at Trinity University in San Antonio.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Dr. Higy was a graduate of Malone University in Canton, Ohio, where she majored in education. She held a master’s degree in education and a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Akron.
