Laura Monks Named President of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology-Shelbyville

The Tennessee Board of Regents appointed Laura Monks as president of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology-Shelbyville. The college, located about halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga, enrolls about 550 students. Women are only 21 percent of the student body.
Since March 2016, Monks has been assistant director of the Shelbyville campus. Earlier, Monks had a 23-year career at Motlow State Community College in Tullahoma, Tennessee, including stints as dean of students and director of athletics.
Monks holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master degree in higher education administration and supervision from Middle Tennessee State University. She is currently completing work on a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies at the University of Memphis.
