Gail Baker Is the New Provost at the University of San Diego

Gail F. Baker has begun her new job as provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of San Diego in California. She had been serving as dean of the College of Communication, Fine Arts, and Media at the University of Nebraska at Omaha since 2006. Earlier she was a professor in the College of Journalism and Communications and vice president for public relations at the University of Florida.
Dr. Baker has been recognized with four Emmy Awards for excellence in documentary writing and producing including her writing of the television documentary DuSable to Obama: Chicago’s Black Metropolis.
Dr. Baker is a graduate of Northwestern University, where she majored in journalism. She earned a master’s degree in marketing communications at Roosevelt University in Chicago and a Ph.D. in journalism at the University of Missouri.
