Rachel Lindsey Appointed to Lead Chicago State University

The board of trustees of Chicago State University has appointed Rachel Lindsey as interim president. The university enrolls more than 3,000 undergraduate students and 1,300 graduate students. Women are 71 percent of the undergraduate student body. The university has had a series of financial problems, resulting from a budget impasse in state government that has reduced or eliminated funding for state universities.

Dr. Lindsey has served as a professor of psychology and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Chicago State University. Earlier in her career, she taught at Northeastern Illinois University and Loyola University of Chicago. Her research has focused on the development of preschool children.

Dr. Lindsey is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Chicago.
