Sara MacSorley is the director of the Green Street Teaching and Learning Center at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. The center serves as a space for Wesleyan faculty and students to do meaningful work with the community and to work with area children and local teachers in art, math, and science.
She is the author of Super Cool Scientists (CreateSpace, 2017), a new coloring book celebrating women in science. The book features stories and illustration of 22 women scientists. Each scientist has a full-page biography opposite a line-drawing illustration by artist Yvonne Page that may be colored. The text is geared toward middle school students.
MacSorley said, “I had been looking for a side project that brought more direct science communication to my life. My background is in science and science outreach and I was missing that a bit. I was also learning to deal with my own anxiety issues so had started coloring to relieve stress. When I was doing some research on the things I’d want to color, I realized there was no book out there quite like this that celebrated women currently doing science in such an approachable way.”
MacSorley holds a bachelor’s degree in marine biology and an MBA from the University of Rhode Island.
