In Memoriam: Vivien Alice Casagrande, 1942-2017

Vivien Casagrande, a research professor of cell and development biology, a professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences, and a professor of psychology at Vanderbilt University, died at her home in Nashville. She was 74 years old.
A native of Belmont, Massachusetts, Dr. Casagrande was a graduate of the University of Colorado. She earned a Ph.D. at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
Dr. Casagrande joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University in 1975. She published over 150 scientific papers most in the field of visual science. In 2006, she was elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the first woman faculty member at Vanderbilt to receive the honor.
