The Next President of Delaware County Community College in Pennsylvania

The next president of Delaware County Community CollegeThe board of trustees of Delaware County Community College in Media, Pennsylvania, has selected L. Joy Gates Black at the educational institution’s next president. She will take office on July 1.

Delaware County Community College, located west of Philadelphia, enrolls nearly 12,000 students. Women are 57 percent of the student body.

Dr. Gates Black has been serving as vice chancellor for academic affairs at Tarrant County College District in Fort Worth, Texas. She joined the staff at Tarrant County College in 2010. Earlier, Dr. Gates Black served in administrative roles at community colleges in Texas, California, and Massachusetts.

A native of Dayton, Texas, Dr. Gates Black is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. She holds a master’s degree in education from Cambridge College in Massachusetts. She holds a doctorate in organizational leadership from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
