In Memoriam: Ingeborg H. Solbrig, 1923-2016

Ingeborg Solbrig, a long-time faculty member at the University of Iowa where she taught German language and literature, died late last month at an assisted living center in Coralville, Iowa. She was 93 years old.
Professor Solbrig was a native of Weissenfels, Germany. She immigrated to the United States in 1961. Dr. Solbrig was a summa cum laude graduate of San Francisco State University. She earned a master’s degree in German studies and a Ph.D. in German and humanities from Stanford University.
After obtaining her doctoral degree. Professor Solbrig joined the faculty at the University of Rhode Island. She also taught at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the University of Kentucky before joining the faculty at the University of Iowa in 1975. There, Dr. Solbrig was promoted to full professor in 1981 and retired and was named professor emerita in 1993 at the age of 70.
