Wheaton College Professor Is a Member of the 50 State Marathon Club

Wheaton College Professor Anettte TomalAnnette Tomal, an associate professor of business and economics at Wheaton College in Illinois, recently completed a 26.2-mile marathon in Pocatello, Idaho. She has now completed running a marathon in all 50 states.

Dr. Tomal began running at the age of 48 and ran her first marathon in Chicago a year later. Now 62 years old she has run a marathon in all 50 states despite the fact that she has had knee surgery and suffered a stroke. Overall, she has competed in 61 marathons and plans to continue to do so with two more events scheduled in 2016. Her best time is four hours, 38 minutes.

Dr. Tomal has served on the faculty at Wheaton College since 1995. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She earned an MBA at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and a Ph.D. in economics at the University of Illinois.

Dr. Howard joins Spelman from Ohio State University, where she has been serving as dean of the College of Engineering. She is a nationally recognized expert in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered technology.
