Tara J. Schapmire to Serve as President of the Association of Oncology Social Work

Tara J. Schapmire, an assistant professor of general internal medicine at the School of Medicine of the University of Louisville, has been chosen as president-elect of the Association of Oncology Social Work. The organization is the world’s largest association of professionals who provide psycho-social services to people with cancer, their families, and their caregivers.
Dr. Schapmire will serve a one-year term as president-elect and then become president of the association in January 2018. She will spend a third year in a leadership role in 2019 as past president.
Dr. Schapmire joined the faculty at the medical school in 2012. She is also affiliated with the university’s School of Social Work. A graduate of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Dr. Schapmire holds a master of social work degree and a Ph.D. in social work from the University of Louisville.
