Fayetteville State University’s Carole Boston Weatherford Wins a Boston Globe-Horn Book Award

Carole Boston WeatherfordCarole Boston Weatherford, a professor of English at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, has been selected to receive the 2016 Boston Globe-Horn Book Award in the nonfiction category. The Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards recognize the best books of the year for children and young adults. This is the 50th year the awards have been presented.

CBW BookProfessor Weatherford is being honored for her book Voice of Freedom: Fannie Lou Hamer, Spirit of the Civil Rights Movement (Candlewick Press, 2015). Professor Weatherford and the other winners will be honored at a ceremony at Simmons College in Boston on September 30.

Carole Boston Weatherford is a native of Baltimore, Maryland, and a graduate of American University in Washington, D.C. She holds a master’s degree in publication design from the University of Baltimore and a master of fine arts degree from the University of South Carolina.
