Clarissa Myrick-Harris Is the New Provost at Savannah State University in Georgia

myrick-harrisSavannah State University in Georgia has appointed Clarissa Myrick-Harris as provost and vice president for academic affairs. Previously, she was associate provost for pedagogical and curricular initiatives at Morehouse College in Atlanta. She also served as a professor of African American studies at Morehouse.

In 2012, Dr. Myrick-Harris was named dean of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences at Morehouse. She was the first woman to be named an academic dean at the college, where all the students are men. Earlier in her career, she served on the faculty at Morris Brown College in Atlanta and the University of Cincinnati.

“It is truly an honor to be selected to lead the academic enterprise at Savannah State University,” said Dr. Myrick-Harris. “Savannah State has transformed the lives of thousands during its 125-year history, and it continues to produce impressive graduates for today’s global marketplace.”

Dr. Myrick-Harris is a graduate of Morris Brown College. She earned a master’s degree in journalism from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in American studies from Emory University in Atlanta.
