Gloria Pryor James Is the New Provost at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas

Gloria Pryor JamesGloria Pryor James is the new provost and vice president for academic affairs at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. Wiley College enrolls about 1,350 students. According to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Education, 57 percent of the students at the historically Black college are women.

Dr. James is the former provost and vice president for academic affairs at Virginia Union University in Richmond. She has also served as dean for undergraduate studies, professor of communication and executive assistant to the president of Clark Atlanta University in Georgia. Early in her career she held posts at Howard University and the University of the District of Columbia.

In accepting the positions, Dr. James stated that “it will be an honor to use my knowledge and abilities to work in concert with a great faculty to ensure academic success for students who are serious about attaining an education and practical skills that will serve them while enrolled at the College and beyond. I am also looking forward to working with Wiley’s great leadership team, which is cognizant of the impact that its decisions have on shaping the future of the College. I know that I can make a meaningful contribution to Wiley College and its stakeholders.”

Dr. James is a graduate of Michigan State University. She holds a master’s degree in communication arts from Indiana University and a Ph.D. in communication research and theory from the University of Pittsburgh.
