The Next Provost at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey

smallGillian Small has been selected to serve as provost at Fairleigh Dickinson University, which operates campuses in Florham Park and Teaneck, New Jersey. Combined the two campuses enroll more than 11,000 students. Dr. Samll’s appointment is effective August 1.

Dr. Small has been serving as vice chancellor for research at the City University of New York. She joined the staff at CUNY in 2001 after serving on the faculty at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. Earlier in her career, Dr. Small taught at the University of Florida.

A native of Great Britain, Dr. Small is a molecular biologist. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in biological sciences from Wolverhampton University in Great Britain. She came to the United States in 1985.

Dr. Howard joins Spelman from Ohio State University, where she has been serving as dean of the College of Engineering. She is a nationally recognized expert in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered technology.
