In Memoriam: Carolyn Patricia Boyd, 1944-2015

Carolyn P. Boyd, professor of history emerita at the University of California, Irvine, died at her home in Irvine on July 19. She was 71 years old and had suffered from pancreatic cancer. A native of La Jolla, California, Dr. Boyd was raised in Idaho.
Dr. Boyd taught history at the University of Texas at Austin from 1973 to 1999. She then joined the faculty at the University of California, Irvine. There she served as director of the Honor Program and in 2006 was named dean of graduate studies. She retired from the university in 2010. Professor Boyd was the author of several books including Historia Patria: Politics, History, and National Identity in Spain, 1875-1975 (Princeton University Press, 1997).
Professor Boyd was a graduate of Stanford University, where she majored in history. She held a Ph.D. from the University of Washington.
