The New Provost at the University of South Carolina

Joan T.A. Gabel has been selected as the next provost and executive vice president of academic affairs at the University of South Carolina. She is expected to begin her new duties on August 24, pending official approval by the university’s board of trustees.
Gabel has been serving as dean of the Trulaske College of Business at the University of Missouri in Columbia since 2010. Previously, she was the DeSantis Professor and chair of the department of risk management/insurance, real estate, and legal studies at the College of Business at Florida State University. Earlier, she served on the faculty at Georgia State University in Atlanta for 11 years.
A native of Atlanta, Gabel earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Haverford College in Pennsylvania and a juris doctorate from the University of Georgia.
