Emory University Professor to Be Subject of a New Film Starring Hilary Swank

lipstadtIn 2005, Deborah Lipstadt, the Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish History and Holocaust Studies at Emory University in Atlanta, published the book History on Trial: My Day in Court With a Holocaust Denier (Ecco Press, 2005) . The book chronicles Professor Lipstadt successful defense in British courts after she was accused of libel by David Irving. In her 1993 book Denying the Holocaust: The Growing Assault on Truth and Memory (Free Press, 1993), she accused Irving of being a “Holocaust denier.”HistoryonTrial

Now Dr. Lipstadt book on the legal case is being made into a feature movie titled Denial. Academy Award-winning actress Hilary swank has been cast as Professor Lipstadt. Academy award nominee Tom Wilkinson will play Dr. Lipstadt’s barrister

Dr. Lipstadt is a graduate of City College of New York. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
