Two Women Among the Three Finalists for President of the University of Toledo

The University of Toledo in Ohio has announced three finalists for president of the university. All three candidates have been invited to campus for a series of interviews and public forums. The university enrolls more than 16,000 undergraduate students and about 4,500 graduate students. Women make up 49 percent of the undergraduate student body.
Two of three finalists for president of the University of Toledo are women.
Sharon L. Gaber is provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Arkansas. Prior to accepting this position in 2009, Dr. Gaber was interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at Auburn University in Alabama. Dr. Gaber is a graduate of Occidental College in Los Angeles. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. in city and regional planning from Cornell University.
Michele G. Wheatly is a professor and senior adviser to the president of West Virginia University. She served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at the university from 2009 to 2014. In 2014, she was a finalist for the presidency at Florida State University. Dr. Wheatly holds a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate from Birmingham University in England.
Update: On March 12, Sharon L. Gaber was named the 17th president of the University of Toledo.
