In Memoriam: Kathryn M. Chaloner, 1954-2014

Kathryn M. Chaloner, professor and chair of the department of biostatistics at the University of Iowa, died in late October. She was 60 years old.
Professor Chaloner was a native of Crewe in England. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics at the University of Oxford and a master’s degree in statistics from University College London. She then came to the United States to earn a Ph.D. in statistics at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
Dr. Chaloner taught at the University of Minnesota for 20 years before joining the faculty at the University of Iowa in 2002.
The University of Iowa has established a scholarship fund in Dr. Chaloner’s honor for underrepresented minority students in the department of biostatistics in the College of Public Health.
