Condoleezza Rice, professor of political economy in the Graduate School of Business and the Thomas and Barbara Stephenson Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, has received the Thayer Award, presented by the U.S. Military Academy’s Association of Graduates. The award is given to individuals who exemplify West Point’s motto, “Duty, Honor, Country.” The award is named after Col. Sylvanus Thayer, the first superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy.
Dr. Rice is the former assistant to the president for national security affairs and served as U.S. Secretary of State from 2005 to 2009.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Rice earned a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Denver. She also holds a master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame.
