Three Women Hired as Assistant Professors at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York

St._LawrenceSaint Lawrence University in Canton, New York, has announced the hiring of 10 new faculty members for the current academic year. Three of the new faculty members are women. The university enrolls about 2,400 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students. Women make up about 55 percent of the student body.

Jenny Su is a new assistant professor of psychology. She previously taught at National Taiwan University. She will teach introductory psychology and courses on cultural and cross-cultural psychology. Dr. Su earned a Ph.D. in psychology at the University of Minnesota.

J Thomas Directory PhotoJennifer Thomas was appointed an assistant professor of performance and communication art. She previously taught at her alma mater, Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. She earned a graduate certificate in women’s and gender studies and a Ph.D. in theater art from the University of Oregon.

Penny VlagopoulosPenny Vlagopoulos was named an assistant professor of English. She previously was an assistant professor of English at Texas A&M International University in Laredo. Dr. Vlagopoulus earned a Ph.D. in English and comparative literature from Columbia University in New York City.

The new provosts are Barbara Rodriguez at the University of New Mexico, Bridget Chalk at Manhattan University in New York, and Jaci Lederman at Vincennes University in Indiana. All three women had been serving as their university's interim provost.

Ayanna Howard Appointed the Twelfth President of Spelman College in Atlanta

Dr. Howard joins Spelman from Ohio State University, where she has been serving as dean of the College of Engineering. She is a nationally recognized expert in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered technology.
