The New Provost at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida

Irma Becerra-Fernandez was named provost at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida. The university offers 25 undergraduate and 12 graduate degrees at its 145-acre campus. Women make up 55 percent of the 1,000-member student body. The university also enrolls about 1,300 graduate students.
Dr. Becerra-Fernandez has been serving as vice president in the Office of Engagement at Florida International University in Miami. Earlier she was vice provost for academic affairs and a professor of business administration. Prior to joining the staff at Florida International University, Dr. Becerra-Fernandez was an engineer for Florida Power and Light.
Dr. Becerra-Fernandez holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Miami. She earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Florida International University.
