Women make up more than 76 percent of the teachers in the nation’s elementary and secondary schools. But new information from the U.S. Department of Education shows that women are only 51.5 percent of the public school principals in the United States. In 2013, there were 46,140 women serving as public school principals in the U.S.
The data also shows that in 2013, 11.4 percent of all women who had served as principals in the previous school year had left the profession. Another 7 percent of women principals had moved to a different school between 2012 and 2013.
