Yale University’s Joan Steitz Elected to the United Kingdom’s Royal Society

Joan Steitz, the Sterling Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, was elected to the Royal Society, the United Kingdom’s national academy of science. She is one of only 10 foreign members elected to the society this year.

Professor Steitz is being honored for her work with non-coding RNA, which has applications in treatment for cancer and autoimmune and infectious diseases.

Dr. Steitz is a graduate of Antioch College. She earned a Ph.D. at Harvard University and conducted postdoctoral research at Cambridge University.
