Women Are More Reluctant Than Men to Take on Debt to Finance Their College Education

A recent survey conduced by the photoAmerican Action Forum found that 39 percent of women believed that is worth taking on considerable debt in order to achieve a college education. Some 45 percent of men believed that it was wise to take on debt if necessary in order to secure a college degree.

For women who have earned a bachelor’s degree, 45 percent claimed that it was worth going into debt to achieve their educational goal. But 55 percent of college-educated men said that it was worth going into debt to get their degree.

Women may be more reluctant to take on debt to achieve their educational goals because they believe they will earn less than men once they are in the work force.
