Jacqueline Noonan Honored by the American College of Cardiology

jacqueline_a_noonanJacqueline Noonan, professor emerita at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, has been chosen to receive the 2014 Gifted Educator Award from the American College of Cardiology. The award honors an individual who has demonstrated innovative, outstanding teaching characteristics that contribute significantly to the field of cardiovascular medicine. She will receive the award in Washington on March 31.

Dr. Noonan joined the College of Medicine in 1961. Soon thereafter, she began publishing articles on a rare type of heart defect in children. The condition was later named Noonan Syndrome in her honor.

Dr. Noonan officially retired in 2007. Now 85 years old, she continues to come to her office at the university every day and lectures, conducts research, writes, and advises junior faculty. An endowed chair at the university has been named in her honor.

Professor Noonan is a graduate of Albert Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut, where she majored in chemistry. She earned her medical degree at the University of Vermont.
