Two Rising Stars Share the Young Labor Economist Award

Amalia Miller, associate professor of economics at the University of Virginia, is sharing the Young Labor Economist Award from IZA, the International Institute for the Study of Labor with Martha Bailey, an associate professor of economics at the University of Michigan, and a male colleague. The award recognizes an outstanding paper in labor economics authored by researchers under the age of 40. The award-winning research, “The Opt-In Revolution? Contraception, Fertility Timing, and the Gender Gap in Wages,” was published in the journal Applied Economics. The article may be accessed here.

Dr. Miller is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University. Dr. Bailey is a graduate of Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in economics from Vanderbilt University.
