Reported Cases of Sexual Assault Drop at U.S. Military Academies

DOD-logo-vector-RGBThe U.S. Department of Defense recently released its annual report on sexual assault cases at the three U.S. military academies: the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The study reports there were 70 sexual assaults at the three academies during the 2012-13 academic year. This was down from 80 sexual assaults reported in the prior academic year.

There were 45 reported sexual assaults at the U.S. Air Force Academy, by far the highest among the three campuses. But the number was down from 52 reports in the 2011-12 academic year. There were 15 reported sexual assaults at the U.S. Naval academy, up two from the previous year. At West Point, 10 sexual assaults were reported, down from 15 in 2011-12.
