Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

money_bagHere is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

The American Association of University Women has announced a series of grants to 11 educational institutions. The colleges will receive funding to support programs aimed at improving opportunity for women in higher education. The 11 colleges receiving grants include County College of Morris in New Jersey, Gateway Community College and Norwalk Community College in Connecticut, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, Northampton Community College in Pennsylvania, and Seminole State College in Florida. Also receiving grants are Suffolk County Community College in New York, the University of Cincinnati in Ohio, Vance Granville Community College in North Carolina, Washington State University, and Windward Community College in Hawaii.

The University of New Hampshire received an anonymous gift of $162,000 to support the university’s sexual harassment and rape prevention program. The funds will help fund the Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention Program (SHARPP) on campus.

The University of Cincinnati received a $100,000 grant from HOPE and the American Cancer Society to study a protein found in breast cancer cells that when eliminated is found to stop cancer cell growth..
